FarDriver “controller version too low”: the firmware update is the risky part
The popup tells riders to use WeChat to install the latest controller firmware. That newer firmware includes an anti-counterfeit measure; if the controller is a clone, installing it can leave the controller disabled or effectively bricked.
The risk comes next. Following the WeChat prompt loads the newer firmware, and its anti-counterfeit protection can disable hardware that fails the check.
If the update has already stopped the controller from working, GDriver cannot reverse the firmware change or revive the hardware.
The WeChat firmware contains the anti-counterfeit measure
The FarDriver app sees firmware below its current requirement and shows “controller version too low.” It then directs the rider to a WeChat Mini Program to download and install the latest controller firmware.
The newer firmware contains a measure intended to block counterfeit controllers. A clone may work on its existing firmware, show the update message in the app, and then become disabled only after the rider installs the recommended firmware. That is the strange state riders are running into.
Older firmware → “controller version too low” → WeChat download → latest firmware → anti-counterfeit check → a counterfeit controller may be left unusable.
Confirm the controller is genuine before following the prompt
The danger is not limited to choosing the wrong file. The official latest firmware itself includes the anti-counterfeit protection. If there is any doubt about the controller’s origin, do not install the WeChat update until the seller or FarDriver verifies the hardware.
Verify the hardware first
Ask the original seller or FarDriver to confirm the full model, serial, and authenticity before updating.
Preserve working firmware
If an unverified controller still works, do not install newer firmware merely to clear the app message.
Leave the existing firmware alone while authenticity is uncertain. If a controller sold as genuine is disabled by the update, ask the seller for a replacement or refund.
